Bibliophile

John Railing has a passion for books and is an avid collector. He has one of the largest private collections of pop-up and movable books, consisting of over 5,000 titles and a trove of ephemera.  He has also assembled a marvelous collection of modern first editions.  This includes and extensive Edward Gorey collection and one of the most significant Truman Capote collections.  His library ranges from architecture to magic to math and toys, along with French photography books and Jeffersonia (Thomas Jefferson).  John has curated several exhibits of movable books and lectured on subjects related to his collecting.  He is currently on the Board of Trustees of the Caxton Club of Chicago, the esteemed organization of book lovers.
